Concourt strikes down part of citizenship law

JOHANNESBURG – The Constitutional Court has upheld a ruling that struck down a clause of the Citizenship Act.

The act meant South Africans lost their citizenship automatically when they took on another nationality, without ministerial permission.

The apex court found the provision unconstitutional, and ordered that the citizenship of affected individuals be reinstated.
