SPOUSAL VISA – FOR MARRIED COUPLES

|
You may apply for a spousal visa if:
- You are legally married to a South African citizen or permanent resident
- Your marriage is recognized under South African law
- You can prove a shared residence and a genuine relationship
- Your South African spouse can financially support you
- Submit Medical Reports
The visa is typically granted for 2 to 3 years and can be renewed. It is a temporary residence visa, but may lead to permanent residence after 5 years of cohabitation.
LIfe partner visa – for unmarried couples
If you are in a permanent, committed relationship with a South African citizen or permanent resident,
but not legally married, you may apply for a life partner visa.
To qualify, you must:
- Show proof of a relationship lasting at least 2 years
- Submit joint documentation such as lease agreements, shared bank accounts, or affidavits from both partners
- Provide a notarised Life Partnership Agreement confirming your commitment
- Meet the same financial and medical requirements as for married applicants
As with spousal visas, a life partner visa can be endorsed for work, business, or study, and may qualify for permanent residence after 5 years of cohabitation.
