Asylum seeker transit permit
• Australian Luc Osstyn missed the birth of his first-born in Cape Town.
• And wife Jade van Ryneveld has missed having her husband at her side for seven weeks.
• But finally their separation nightmare may be over.
An Asylum seeker transit permit may be issued to any person who at a port of entry claims to be an asylum seeker for a period of 14 days only in order for that person to report to a refugee reception officer and apply for asylum at the nearest refugee office in South Africa.
If such person fails to report within this time then that person will become an illegal foreigner and thus become subject to any enforcement actions by the authorities in South Africa.
It is important for asylum seekers to appreciate that they have a right to apply for asylum at any stage whilst within South Africa and must be given that right.
As prominent immigration attorneys, our services in the application of an asylum seeker permit are essential.
