A relatives permit, including a spousal permit or life partner permit may be issued for a maximum of two years to a foreigner who is a member of the immediate family as defined of a citizen or permanent resident of South Africa and able to prove kinship as defined.
Such citizen or permanent resident must be able to financially support the applicant in an amount of R5000 per month per person to obtain a relatives permit. Where the applicant for a relatives permit is a spouse (spousal permit or life partner permit) or dependant minor child the proof of financial support is not required.
